The term seventh generation is one that Onondaga children learn at a very young age. We are taught that we (humans) have a responsibility, that everything we do must be done in consideration of the seventh generation to come. This principle is what guides my writing.

I want our seventh generation to enter a world filled with kindness, compassion, love, and understanding. I want our seventh generation to know that they are precious, unique, and beautiful. I want the seventh generation to live in a world that celebrates our similarities and our diversity.

The only way this type of world will exist is if we understand, care for, and love one another. So, I write.

I write stories that allow the reader to see and understand my people, the Onondaga, the Haudenosaunee. That’s not to say I speak for every Onondaga or every Haudenosaunee person out there; I offer you my stories and my truth. I write stories from the Native American perspective, because that is the view Creator has given me to share with others. I write stories for all readers- stories that entertain, educate, inspire, and speak universal truths. I write stories that speak to the human experience, because in the end, that is what we are- same hopes, same fears, same needs, same feelings- human.

I write for the world I want our seventh generation to find.
